DeLorean Showcase

This project was created over the course of about a week, working roughly half-time each day. It explores cinematic timing, flames, and explosions through a recreation of the iconic time travel scene from Back to the Future. I’ve always loved this movie, and this scene in particular has stuck with me since I was a kid. Rebuilding it was a way to pay tribute and also push my skills in visual effects.

It all started with the idea of capturing that exact moment when the car hits 88 mph and vanishes in a burst of energy. I used this as a foundation to experiment with Embergen and focus on creating high-quality fire and explosion simulations that feel dramatic and believable.

The core challenge was getting the timing and energy right. While this isn’t meant to be game-ready, the goal was to create something that feels cinematic and powerful. I spent a lot of time refining the flame behavior and shockwave effects to really sell the impact of the moment.

I’m really happy with how it turned out and feel like it captures the magic of that scene in a way that’s both nostalgic and technically satisfying.

Once again thanks to Johannes Burström for the great feedback I've gotten during this project!

A not so modular "Shape Location" module that allows particles to spawn somewhere along 7 lines that are connected by 8 points. Used for spawning the ribbons from the back of the car
